Clinical Study of Aztreonam (Azactam^(¢ç)) in Infection Caused by Aerobic Gram-Negative Organisms




Abstract
Total 16 cases of infectious disease that caused by aerobic gram-negative organisms were treated at the department of thopaedic Surgery, Chungnam National University Hospital, with Aztresonam from September 1988 to November 1988.
The results were as follows:
1. Among 16 cases, 6 were patients with bed sore infection, 3 were cellulitis, 2 were postoperative infection, 3 were osteomyelitis, 2 were septic arthritis.
2. The causative organisms were pseudomonas in 5 cases, E. coli in 6 cases, Klebsiellaa in 3 cases, Serratia in 1 case, and Gram (-) bacilli in 1 case.
3. The results were cure in 15 cases, partial response in 1 cases, and there was no findings of failure.
4. The laboratory result were normal except one, which shows the finding od mild elevation of SGOT and SGPT. This was reversible.
5. The side effects were noted on 2 cases, such as headache and drug fever. This was recovered from stop of drug.
Aztreonam was thought to be useful against infection that was caused by aerobic gramnegative organisms.
